Stuck to our pegs, we exchanged disconsolate glances from across the room, though he was less likely to give up than I, just as he’d been in our first lives.

“This recipe is too potent,” he insisted, the wooden hinges of his lower jaw clicking, “You’ll explode your lab. What good are we if you don’t listen to our advice?”

I cheated again. What is that? Four lines? But it’s dialogue! It’s not as realistic if it’s all convoluted and long XD

Got a little creative on this one since I didn’t want the girl to be my main, so…I used that nifty, large-toothed mask on the wall. He’s my ‘he’ and the POV is out of sight against the opposite wall.

What would you do with this story? I won’t say use two lines, since I already broke that rule, but which direction would you go? And can you still make it man-loving at the same time? That’s the real challenge for some of these image prompts ;)

Like many beasts of the sea, they only grew as large as their environment allowed.

This one would be a gift to that sailor he’d once take up with, that was, if the man ever returned to port.

~Emmi

Lawl XD And what would happen if the sailor ever gets his gift and then releases it into the sea? Would the creature come back and be a friend? Or attack the ship because it resented being kept tiny?

Honestly, it doesn’t matter much, because the sailor is probably one of those guy-in-every-port types.

And when the attack came, it came upon the ivory wings of the brightest light, engulfing all within its path.

Leaving imprints, a visage to torment him with a hope-tinged grief that there might be some remedy to recover who was lost.

This one makes me sad for some reason, so that’s the direction my story went. Though I’m sure the figure could be some type of creature creating a familiar form in order to better communicate or some such.

This is actually a statue; artist uses three-dimensional medium I believe.

Little golems ran amok in the gardens, hiding in the ferns.

They took a liking to all things green and fertile, a gift they’d received from his beloved or, more accurately, his image of his beloved.

I love him so much! He’s adorable, especially since I’m insisting that he’s tiny and cute rather than large and intimidating.

Deep in the evenings he worked them, night after night, while one by one they quit, citing his obsession with a premise that would never bear fruit as reason.

And yet one stayed on, a silent man with a stoic countenance and hands as steady as his stride, a man who stayed, not for the promise of success, but to admire real drive and passion that so often was lacking in himself.

This is just a piece of a larger image, though I didn’t know that when I wrote the story. So while it’s technically an airship, I viewed it as a workshop instead and went with that idea.

The love of men had come and gone, shattered by his nomadic lifestyle.

But she remained at his side, a silent presence that promised an undying love no man could fathom.

Channeling some Anne McCaffrey for a brief moment, because who didn’t imagine living in her world at some point? :P

You should spend some time checking out the rest of the artist’s gallery, because damn, it’s right up anyone’s alley if you come to my blog ;)

Born to the bleakest plane, to wretched parents and a starving landscape, yet raised to be a thriving, powerful force, he embraced his dual parameters.

Became the most feared, the most sought after warrior of all the lands. With only one who ever dared cross him.

So this story actually references a person I haven’t written about yet, but who will eventually feature in a series. Though he’s not going to look like the kid in the picture. At least not most of the time ;)

The path led him to beautiful desolation. There he found what remained of his companion’s supplies and footsteps leading astray, as if seduced by ripening pomegranates and sun-dappled shade.

He strung his bow before following, praying he would catch-up before the beauty revealed its torturous underbelly.

It’s pretty, but most pretty things hide secrets. At least in the fantasy worlds I read :)

Technological advance was a misnomer, for while they could die a thousand times over and continue on, the family they’d left, the friends they’d cherished, and the loves for whom they’d risked everything were all gone.

Giving him nothing, no reason to fight. And yet he fought on, for maybe, in time, some counter advancement might take away this nightmare, let him join his love once more in death.

Modern-style dead mercenaries is how I envisioned them, without the ability to physically love the ones who set them to fighting in the first place.

I saw you in the shape of the stars, in the breath of the god across the heavens.

You winked at me, from far away, and though it took you decades, you arrived on my world exactly when I needed you most.

Bright Night Sky by QAuZ

I hope everyone is having a mild season of gentle weather and open windows! We’ve reached that place where star gazing isn’t quite so intensely freezing where I am, that season where my cat would like nothing more than to go outside and eat poisonous things and lawn mowers have been brushed off and set to singing whenever it’s not wet!

Been reading more sci-fi lately, so this particular picture called to me. Starry nightscapes have a calming effect for me (and maybe for you!) and I’m drawn to them when hectic life feels like one interruption after the other.
