A firecracker she’d been once, a gust sweeping over the nation, malcontent to linger at home. Or so her brother claimed.

What do I know though, for his charms were strong, his coin good, and I didn’t mind taking a job to do a bit of rescuing rather than another execution.

See! Even beautiful pictures of women can hide a fun manly romance behind them :) And yes, I cheated; there are more than two lines here XD

So, what would your two line story be?

They smelt burnt gas, which didn’t bode well for finding enough to keep their clipper in the air.

Then Tin perked up, ears facing front on alert, before he took off, sprinting for the gaping hollow belly of the wreck where we found a survivor, a man pale from deep space, yet alive and struggling to hold on to life.

Probably meant as post-apocalyptic, but that always seems strange to me. Since, our lives, however we live them, are our ‘normal’ and people living in a world that is ‘post-apocalyptic’ wouldn’t really think of it as a new normal within a single generation.

This is merely a piece of this man’s normal. Scavenging with his best friend. Skimping on gas use to keep his small ship in the air. Finding another who might share this life.

The music existed solely for showmanship, the sand-made creations moving under my will, not my father’s notes, a harmonious dance we’d perfected.

Only one man ever noticed, and he conjured his own beasts to twine with mine, those creatures looking much like our bodies in all the evenings since.

Here’s a happier bit story that’s a nod toward my DaSunder Chronicles, where sand conjurers hide among the everyday :)

As the oceans receded, we abandoned all but one another, leaving our homes, our art, our histories behind that marked our existence.

Land dwellers who had once thought us myth began to seek us out and we found ourselves caught in civil strife for the first time, for there were those of us who fell in love, and those who fell into a very different emotion.

Imagine stumbling across a place that held proof of a people never before known and then meeting and falling in love with one of those people. That is how I envisioned this story going forward.

All the resentment I’d let turn me bitter would fade at the sight of him mired in work.

The contentment, the pure bliss he found in caring for their pudgy, scaly hides made me reevaluate my choices, consider perhaps I didn’t need to argue or fight any longer, just…let it all go.

I imagine some bad boy’s reform once he finds the man who can show him a different side of life. Like the smile you give to absolute strangers that might just brighten their day a little bit, except more…and better! :)

Belief had a crazed effect on him, making him dogmatic, incapable of change and impatient of any who disagreed.

Finding proof of his gods, at least what he considered proof, turned him into a merciless monster, much like the creatures he revered.

I envisioned this story (part one here) as two stories as told from the perspective of the man who loves him, though I guess I never explicitly state that.

Men pushed to the snow wastes resented their exile, but those who grew up there, they flourished, rising up to control the heathens, to enforce order, and even, in the darkest of times, to create religion to give the hopeless a last straw to grasp.

His was a harsh one, the Drokonans worshiping the blood-eyed creatures who were believed to live under the drifts, a frosty threat overtaking man, animal and all those between.

A manly picture for viewing pleasure :)

This one just seemed to join with next week’s so I put them together as a two-parter, though I guess they could technically be read separately.

They have that snowy, wintry feeling and since it’s still cold, they seemed fitting.

I sifted through tomes, both modern and ancient, searching through words, through glyphs, through sounds nonsensical to me until I found a book that he grasped tightly, refusing to release.

Armed then with his language, I could finally begin the far more magical journey of learning who he truly was.

I wish I had a library comparable to this! As do most readers, I’d presume XD For this story, I imagined the library as a place that housed every book ever written, in every language, whether put to paper or not.

Dawn came too soon in this land; he would have to find shelter, and quickly.

But not before he caught a first glimpse of a house only described to him in dreams, where dwelled a man his opposite in all things, the one who might complete him.

This picture made me think of an undead rider, so that was the direction I ran in. Figure even after death he might have hopes and dreams and even the possibility of love :)

“I’d thought this time it’d be different: he’d turned down the job move, cut back his hours, yet here I am, once more sharing a cig with the level’s barge rat.”

“In my world, when a rat will not come home, there ceases to exist a home to come back to.”

~Emmi

Bit of advice on some love life issues, as told by the resident barge rat. Think there’s probably a lot here you could use for pretty much any kind of story, but I liked the idea of relationship growing beyond its limit.
