Everywhere was a cemetery of some sort at some time, death merely a precursor to life anew.

But he harbored a fondness for aged headstones, midnight black cats and the undead men who dwelled in such garishly macabre places.

Because what kind of fantasy author would I be without at least one mention of vampires or zombies of some sort? XD

Religious texts waxed on about the red-stained sand representing the sins of the forefathers. The scientists mumbled something about oxidation and reaction.

Maybe they were both right, for when I lay upon the ground with you, I simply can not breathe and my sinful lust controls the very cells of my body.

This is beach week for my family! We’re taking our RV to the Outer Banks (NC) for the first time (so wish us luck!). When we made a patio this spring we had a bunch of sand delivered and dumped in our driveway, not exactly the same thing, but I dug my feet in anyway and wished and wished. Thought a sandy world was appropriate :)

If you wrote a two line story for this picture, what would it be about?

His sponsor’s daughter had been born with an invasive disease that returned year after year…after year.

He obeyed reluctantly the first few times, but it got easier, and when it did, he changed, became a man unrecognizable, a man I no longer trusted, so I fled, not anticipating him following.

I had another story for this image, but it didn’t have any kind of relationship mentioned, the referenced plot in that one dealing with the transfer of souls versus the death of them. Plus the one above, while seemingly sadder, also has a happy ending, where the one I ending up not using seemed happy at first and then twisted sadder.

So better all around I guess :)

This title was difficult as well. The first one was “The One Thing He Couldn’t Stand to Lose” and that’s just a mouthful of awfulness. Granted the title I settled on isn’t the most amazing thing ever either, but it’s…better XD

Like many beasts of the sea, they only grew as large as their environment allowed.

This one would be a gift to that sailor he’d once take up with, that was, if the man ever returned to port.

~Emmi

Lawl XD And what would happen if the sailor ever gets his gift and then releases it into the sea? Would the creature come back and be a friend? Or attack the ship because it resented being kept tiny?

Honestly, it doesn’t matter much, because the sailor is probably one of those guy-in-every-port types.

What would your two line story be? :)

And when the attack came, it came upon the ivory wings of the brightest light, engulfing all within its path.

Leaving imprints, a visage to torment him with a hope-tinged grief that there might be some remedy to recover who was lost.

This one makes me sad for some reason, so that’s the direction my story went. Though I’m sure the figure could be some type of creature creating a familiar form in order to better communicate or some such.

This is actually a statue; artist uses three-dimensional medium I believe.

Little golems ran amok in the gardens, hiding in the ferns.

They took a liking to all things green and fertile, a gift they’d received from his beloved or, more accurately, his image of his beloved.

I love him so much! He’s adorable, especially since I’m insisting that he’s tiny and cute rather than large and intimidating.

What would your two line story be about him?

Deep in the evenings he worked them, night after night, while one by one they quit, citing his obsession with a premise that would never bear fruit as reason.

And yet one stayed on, a silent man with a stoic countenance and hands as steady as his stride, a man who stayed, not for the promise of success, but to admire real drive and passion that so often was lacking in himself.

This is just a piece of a larger image, though I didn’t know that when I wrote the story. So while it’s technically an airship, I viewed it as a workshop instead and went with that idea.

The love of men had come and gone, shattered by his nomadic lifestyle.

But she remained at his side, a silent presence that promised an undying love no man could fathom.

Channeling some Anne McCaffrey for a brief moment, because who didn’t imagine living in her world at some point? :P

You should spend some time checking out the rest of the artist’s gallery, because damn, it’s right up anyone’s alley if you come to my blog ;)

So, using this image as a prompt, what would your two line story be?

Born to the bleakest plane, to wretched parents and a starving landscape, yet raised to be a thriving, powerful force, he embraced his dual parameters.

Became the most feared, the most sought after warrior of all the lands. With only one who ever dared cross him.

So this story actually references a person I haven’t written about yet, but who will eventually feature in a series. Though he’s not going to look like the kid in the picture. At least not most of the time ;)

The path led him to beautiful desolation. There he found what remained of his companion’s supplies and footsteps leading astray, as if seduced by ripening pomegranates and sun-dappled shade.

He strung his bow before following, praying he would catch-up before the beauty revealed its torturous underbelly.

It’s pretty, but most pretty things hide secrets. At least in the fantasy worlds I read :)
